I know there's at least a couple of other posters here who pay attention to the sport of wrestling. I've wanted to start a thread for a minute, but after the drama at the Soldier Salute yesterday, it's overdue.
What happened yesterday? First, a little back story. AJ Ferrari is a supremely talented wrestler who is also a complete POS. He won an NCAA title as a true freshman at Oklahoma State in 2021. He was undefeated midway through his sophomore year when he wrecked his car and got badly injured ending his season. In the summer of 2022 he was accused of sexual assault and dismissed from Oklahoma State.
The criminal charges were dismissed in October of this year and Iowa, which had its roster depleted in the gambling scandal, started actively recruiting him to join in the spring semester. He is expected to be at Iowa once the semester starts.
Yesterday, he wrestled unattached at the Soldier Salute - his first competition in two years - and ended up wrestling Iowa's current 197 lber Zach Glazier in the final. Ferrari is about to win 2-1, when the ref calls him for stalling, tying the match and pushing it to sudden victory. Ferrari gets the winning takedown but manages to get himself DQ'd from the tournament for his post-match behavior.
Seems like a perfect fit for Iowa. I can't imagine how toxic that wrestling room must be.
