Running Wildfire Thread

One of my cousins got married just south of Lake Tahoe four years ago. My brothers and I rented a cabin a quarter-mile from the south shore. Played some cards in Stateline. Horrible to see. Guessing the Edgewater course where the celebrity tournament is played every July is in severe jeopardy.

That looks bad, but so far, it's been quiet here in the Rockies. The smoke blowing in from the West, on the other hand, has been a disaster. We've got monsoons coming in from Hurricane Nora on Wednesday that could bring flash flooding and mudslides and could shut down one of two major interstates in the state -- again.

One of those on the map, the Schneider Springs fire in central Washington, has been burning and spewing smoke for almost a month now after a lightning strike started it.

It's due east of Mount Rainier in the foothills of the Cascades, in very inaccessible terrain, and smoke from it has shrouded Yakima and other parts of central and eastern Washington with unhealthy air levels for weeks.

On days with strong southwest winds (like today), the smoke drifts 200-plus miles into North Idaho.
