Sopranos Prequel trailer— Anyone else fired up?

As a watch it was uneven, but the more I think about it, the more I like it. It helps to let go of the expectation that Tony will be the main character of the movie. I hope that HBO follows through on what it seems to set up, which is a new series, or at least a series of movies, about Tony's development.

Also, Vera Farmiga as younger Livia was tremendously enjoyable.

Dickie almost was the only character worthy of empathy in the entire Soprano's universe.

I assumed that the prison scenes with Hollywood deck's brother were dreams, but others I spoke with disagree.

Has Ray Liotta ever made anything better? I mean has anyone ever said, "oh this will be fantastic. Ray Liotta is in it."

Old enough to have seen Ray Liotta burst onto the scene with a showy supporting role in Jonathan Demme's Something Wild. When Scorsese cast him as the lead role in Goodfellas, he was kind of a hot young actor.

Obviously this was a few decades ago. Side note: you would never have watched Something Wild and guessed that Jeff Daniels would have a more interesting career than Ray Liotta.

Like, Ray Liotta now? Not so much. He seems to firmly be in the Nick Cage or Michael Caine, "I'm just cashing checks" point of his career. I think he's fine with a good script and/or directors, but him signing on to a project means absolutely nothing. Can't take "Goodfellas" away from him though, in which he's incredible.

Nothing Ray Liotta has done comes within a thousand galaxies of what he did as Henry Hill.

Watched last night with wife. The problem with assessing is that you've already got the "Sopranos is fantastic" soundtrack in your head so expectations are humungous right? I thought Nivola was a nice add as Dickie Jr. and young Tony was fine in conveying the hidden talents of Tony beneath the student facade. The best part was Vera doing Tony's mom, that was dead on to what we saw in Sopranos. (As for Liotta, he was really good in stuff leading up to Goodfellas, can't name them but that's my recollection.)

Vera looked so much like a young Edie Falco that I had to IMDB to make sure it wasn't her. Whether that opens up the idea of a Tony Oedipus complex because his wife looks so much like his mother is a whole 'nother story...
