But he was in there when he battled Eleven. Also, she has to be dead to open up the last portal, right? And it opened. I guess she was dead before Eleven brought her back and is now on life support one way or the other.

Yeah, I believe it was Nancy who said Vecna doesn't just kill you, he "takes everything." So perhaps death in the physical world is just a byproduct of that, not the actual goal.

Finished S4 last night.
How did the monsters get from Hawkins to Russia? How did the Russians build a holding area for the monsters? They seemed to be able to break through anything, except the Russian holding pen.
El apparently brought Max back to health, so why couldn't she do it for the cheerleader or the basketball player who were similarly jacked up by 1?
I don't usually go for sci-fi, but I did watch this all the way through and will watch when S5 drops.

El was with Max in the other dimension to protect her, although only sort of successful. She didn't even know the other deaths were happening.

Would have to go back and watch season 3 again on all the Russian connections to the upside down and Hawkins and everything else to see if there was an explanation of how it was working there. I don't totally remember it. Hopper ended up there too, so obviously some pipeline.
