Not the main point, but had no idea Ernie Accorsi was a sportswriter at several big papers, or that he worked in collegiate sports.

I have a lot of respect for Serby and Brooks.

Mushnick? Nah. He's basically been writing the same garbage column the entire time, with a healthy dose of racism.

Mushnick was once a regular click for me but, yeah, even one-trick ponies think his act has worn thin.

Good idea for a story though.

That was a fun read.
Nicely written by Dave Kaplan, my former editor at the NY Daily News -- and what a tale he could likely tell about those glory days.

And I'm especially appreciative of the anecdote about Larry Brooks taking the talented Mollie Walker under his wing ... because the Post has had its fair share of issues with how female sports writers are treated.

That was a terrific read and took a poignant turn with the Brooks/Walker segue. And starting with Phil Mushnick living in Florida was an absolute chef's kiss of a lede. I never would have guessed he's the youngest of the trio, but then again, he's been 72 for 72 years.

I've been waiting to break out this joke when Mushnick dies (hopefully many years from now) — all of the mourners at the funeral were dressed in black, a color ashociated with gang members.

When the Herald first hired me from freelancing, Murdoch owned it. He sold it to his publisher Pat Purcell about a year later, but I worked for him. As I've told people for decades, the checks cleared. More than I can say for some other places I worked.

For a brief time I was able to say, "My boss, David Pecker...." but as said, thankfully only briefly.
