The closing of the Sumner Tunnel (on weekends and soon for the whole summer) makes getting out of Logan a complete nightmare. The Ted Williams Tunnel gets backed up almost to the terminals at peak hours.

If you can get a Chase Sapphire credit card, it's worth it for access to the lounge at Logan alone. My wife and I have been twice now - excellent food, tons of tables and plugs, and you can just relax until your flight. But yeah, the traffic near the airport itself is bad at pretty much all hours. It's slightly better if you're returning a rental car.

There was a darned nice two-story lounge off the par-3 11th hole at the PGA Championship for Chase Sapphire cardholders (plus a guest, which is how I got in) that sure looked preferable to walking around Valhalla.

I have been very happy to freeload off of her for about four years now, haha. There is a yearly fee for the card, but there are a ton of perks that easily make it a net value if you travel even slightly (two to four times a year).

We got a fancy Amex just for our travels, especially flying Delta. For us, the perks and deals far exceed the rather steep annual fee.

I've become quite spoiled by the Delta SkyClub and getting away from the masses.

How is it if you're using the transit system? Wife and I are heading there next week and planning to buy the 7-day pass so we don't have to worry about a rental car. We'll mostly be traveling on trains.

The T is a mess right now. They are doing work and closing lines during the weekend. The buses are okay, but obviously they deal with traffic.

I was amazed how quiet and desolated LaGuardia was at 5:30 a.m. when I flew out of there once. It was a Friday morning too.

I've flown through LaGuardia twice in the last six months and have found it to be a very pleasant experience. Had choices for our layover on a work trip back from Minneapolis to Richmond and chose LGA because of this. Nice food court, lots of places to set up and get some work done, relatively chill as far as big-city airports go. Ended up flying there sort of by happenstance last fall for my trip to Brooklyn because freaking Amtrak was twice as expensive as taking a one-hour flight from RVA. Good free shuttle to the subway from the terminal and I was at my hotel in Williamsburg in no time. If the price is similar, I'll do it all day again over taking the train when I go again this fall.

It sounds like JustGlad is more familiar with the area right now - in the past year, we went during Christmas and late summer, which have their own quirks. The colleges should be out by June, which can lessen traffic in some ways, but Boston is a pretty popular tourist destination at this point, so I'm sure it's just kind of busy at all times, unless you're doing something during really off-peak hours. (i.e. After 11 p.m., before 7 a.m.)

The colleges should be out by June, which can lessen traffic in some ways, but Boston is a pretty popular tourist destination at this point, so I'm sure it's just kind of busy at all times, unless you're doing something during really off-peak hours. (i.e. After 11 p.m., before 7 a.m.)

I highly doubt we'll be out and about during those hours. If we are, it'll be pretty close to the hotel. Looks like the last trains run at about 12:30, so I wouldn't want to run the risk of getting stranded somewhere.
I figure it'll be a shirt show for our trip to the hotel. We'll need to take the Blue Line into downtown right at rush hour (our flight arrives at 5 p.m.), but after that it'll be trips here and there. Also figuring next Thursday will be bad because of Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Other than those days, it'll be trips here and there. We mostly just walk around the city when we go somewhere. We might go up to Salem for a day on the commuter rail.
Just wondering how early we'd need to leave to go back to the airport heading home.

The transformation of LaGuardia had been stunning. From perhaps the worst airport in the US to a very good one. My only complaint is there should be an air train. It's been discussed but I doubt it ever happens.

JFK has also started a major renovation. It'll be a nightmare to get to for a while but based on LGA the finished product should be good.

Pay the money for an Uber. The blue line is a shuttle bus away from Logan. Pain in the ass.
