Tigers acquire Sean Casey

This might be the path to a possible Ryan Shealy trade. Or is this to open 1B for Wilson/Eldred? Surprised Shelton was sent down, regardless.

Shelton has really sucked after a great few weeks in April. He's been a big disappointment on my fantasy team.

Shelton had probably one of the hottest starts anyone could have. But he's fallen into a pretty big slump. Sometimes he looks lost at the plate.

A stint in the minors could help him get his swing straightened out.

Pretty good trade for the Tigers tho. They get a left handed bat with a good OBP and he comes relatively cheap.

For the Pittsburgh fans, a little on Brian Rogers, the AA pitcher.

Wasn't among Detroit's top 30 prospects entering this season. The 24 year-old has worked in relief at Double A this year, posting a 2.39 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and 9.7 K/9. Rogers, a product of Georgia Southern University, was an 11th round pick in 2003. He switched to relief last year and has put up good numbers since.

Everyone knew Shelton couldn't keep up his torrid pace, but he hit .289 in July so he wasn't exactly horrible. I guess someone had to go.

Yeah, I think during the last month of games, he's hitting about .380.

Yea, he hasn't been horrible. Has even had some clutch hits to win games in month. He could look pretty bad in some at bats tho.

Tigers still needed a left handed bat. Casey fills that and has a good OBP and comes a lot cheaper than Soriano. There's just no way you could keep three first basemen (Young, Casey and Shelton).

Yeah, remember when the ESPN talking heads were predicting 40 homers, minimum?

Chris,

Meets the ghosts of big-power starts past, Kevin Maas, Phil Plantier and Bob Hamelin.

forking baseball's financial system, the Pirates will never do anything in this environment. [/Pube]
