Two weeks ago, he was the starting QB at Notre Dame....

Ain't Demetrius Jones' fault that ND doesn't have a running back, receivers or an O-line.

Or Wide Receivers. How dare SITTING BULL relegate that kid to the receivers corps.

Serves ND right.

ND will be set ABLAZE this year. Even Army and Navy are waiting their turn for some Irish Beatdown.

The money quote:

"When I heard Jimmy was the No. 1 all the way through spring and that the only thing that was keeping him out of the lineup was his surgery, well that's not what I was led to believe going into the summer. I thought I was getting a chance because coach Weis believed in me."

The kid obviously feels chewed up and spit out. Bad situation.

very good story by Eric, nice job staying on top of this

great quotes from the kid and good information

an aside - can't believe Weis had them practicing in pads the day after a game. That's high school crap

It's always interesting to note how a one-beat paper handles a train wreck. Separates the sycophants. Good stuff by the Tribune there, at least in terms of pursuing a "negative" story. Not sure how they are day-to-day.

By comparison, I'm sure Jones will love playing for Joe Novak. One of the nicest guys -- not just coaches -- I've ever met.

And the REAL winner of the Demetrius Jones derby is....
CINCINNATI (AP) -- Former Notre Dame quarterback Demetrius Jones enrolled Thursday at No. 24 Cincinnati, where he'll be eligible to run their no-huddle, spread offense next season.

Even though he played for ND in the opener?

It's one calendar year. I'm guessing Cincinnati's opener is more than one year from ND's (early) opener this year.

From further down in the story...
Under NCAA rules, a player must be enrolled prior to the 12th day of classes to be eligible for the next season. Cincinnati didn't start classes until last week, making it attractive to Jones.

I think that was the problem with NIU - they were already a couple of weeks into their semester when he tried to enroll?
