Van Halen---The debate to end it all.

Which one will operate on your toes?

I can get a wee bit drunk on Sammy's tequila for sure. Very good.

As for self-surgery.....strictly lots of cold Coors Original, a razor blade, and a bottle of peroxide.

Roth is fine. Hagar is fine.

Cherone? Pass.

Chef, I know we beat that joke into the ground. But when you groove the pitch like that ... :)

Oh, I know. When I first started that thread, and the responses when I started it, and as it kept going, and when I posted the pictures of the mutiliation..........good times indeed.

I used to say classic Van Halen in a land slide. But as time fogs all memories ... I call it a draw.

Gotta give the props to Diamond Dave, with a tip of the hat to Van Hagar for 5150 and OU812 as "backseat" albums of my true formative years.

I must say I like Van Halen more with Sammy. But, even with Cherone, they never changed the sound of the band.....sure all 3 lead singers have their own disctinctive sound, but Anthony never changed his style, nor did Alex or Eddie (Thank God.)

Van Halen is one of those bands I listened to a ton growing up in the '80s, but then completely left behind as I got older. If not for an occasional tune on classic rock radio, I wouldn't have heard any Van Halen the past 20 years.

If I'm picking a band I'd want to listen to: Roth

If I'm picking someone I'd want to spend more than 30 seconds around: Hagar

Cherone doesn't even enter into the discussion. Instead, I'll use this space to note that Cherone's former Extreme bandmate Nuno Betancourt was playing guitar behind Rihanna on American Idol a few weeks ago.

Dave. And I'm floored that there's ever any question about this.

And we have a winner. There is no debate.

I heard "Right Now" on the radio today and with exception of the guitar solo, that song blows. Totally reminds me of those crappy high school assemblies. You can't beat "Panama," "Ain't Talkin' Bout Love" or "Hot for Teacher" with anything Hagar brought.

Not only that, but Van Halen was the epitome of cool in the early to mid-80s. Hagar was a poor man's Bon Jovi.
