Whither Hampton Roads?

George Shinn (remember him?) at one point years ago put in a bid for an NHL expansion franchise in the Norfolk area.
Don't recall any specifics. Kinda thinking around the time Columbus and Minnesota joined the league.

Not sure it ever got to the bid stage, but I do remember this. I think, but can't remember for sure, that it was coupled to a new arena getting built in either HR or VB, which (obviously) never happened.

At the time, Shinn owned the Greenville Grrrowl (yes, three r's) of the ECHL.

The ECHL didn't have shirt on the WPHL, or as I called it, the "World Wrestling Professional Hockey League."

The only thing missing was a shark tank on each blue line.

I never worked in that league, but have heard some incredible stories.

That is the league that gave us the Tucson Scorch, the team that folded while they were on the bus to the first game of the inaugural season.

And Jason Cohen's book Zamboni Rodeo about the Austin Ice Bats is terrific.

That is a great book, I know a guy who played on that team and the book really made it feel like we were all along for the ride.
