Yankees beat, The Athletic

No matter what channel you're watching it on, it ALWAYS goes to commercial when the person answering the phone identifies the paper.

I've seen some of these films so often on TV that I sometimes know when they're going to commercial.

For Shawshank,, they also go to commercial right after they read Brooks' letter and Red says, "He should have died in here."

Kudos to Brendan Kuty for getting this job.

As a Yankees fan (this isn't personal), I am so glad to hear this. I was just not on the Lindsay Adler bandwagon (again, not personal, I'm just one reader), and I would go long periods of time without even looking at the Athletic.

Between Kuty and Vince Mercogliano (Rangers beat writer), I have thought that Lohud / Star-Ledger / USA Today has been a semi-hidden gem in NY sports coverage. The two of them have done a lot with what I have guessed has been a little. I can't wait to see what Kuty does with this opportunity.

Idk. Sounds personal to me.

It really isn't. I don't know either of them personally. My sense was that a lot of people liked her work on that beat, actually. I was throwing out that "not personal" because I am sensitive about people making anonymous generic criticisms of writers on here. It always feels cheap to me, and I didn't feel good about it. FWIW, I am usually OK with, "I disagreed with this piece because. ..." or "I think his/her coverage was missing such and such. ..." but I wasn't feeling good about a generalized, "I didn't like her work." I should have been more clear. I just was trying to say that I don't know her, I am just one guy and more people than not would probably disagree with me.

EDIT: I shouldn't have weighed in for that on a jobs thread, I am really sorry and I now regret it. I should just have said that I have liked what Kuty has done in the past and I like him as the hire.

Now *I* feel bad because I was just cracking a joke. Honestly, I think it's OK to say you don't like a writer. Plenty of people don't care for my stuff. Just how it goes.

I thought everyone loves me:
