Big-time GateHouse sports layoffs in New England

I don't believe any of the Big 3 you mention is losing money.

You are absolutely correct. The Times, Post and Journal do not lose money. I wrote a horrible sentence that I corrected in the original post.

Two gone at Newport Daily news, one in editorial and one in advertising.

Were most of the hits on cape cod or did they slash at the various wicked local outlets as well?

I heard the weeklies got hit hard. They also ditched the Celtics beat writer for the chain.

If the Globe/GateHouse thing is legit, it would make sense if they cut most of the sports staff. They'd just use Globe copy.

John Henry said a couple months ago that they're making a profit. Interesting timing if sales rumors are legit.

That is good to hear. Last July Henry said the Globe was losing money. Things improved.

Thanks. In fact, the Post is making all kinds of money. It's running a Super Bowl ad today and is on another hiring spree.

Did Norwich get hit? I always liked how the local paper covered the Navigators.
Norwich is going to a 7:45 copy deadline, which if you ask me, you might as well just become an afternoon paper at that point.

Spent 15 years there. What a shame.

The Celtics beat writer? Is that Jim Fenton?

They could for pros, I guess. The Globe doesnt do local very well. That sucks. Most of the weekly sports folks up here are good people

I hope the New York Times continues to see profits increase. I own a miniscule amount of stock for my meager portfolio.

Has Gatehouse quietly closed any of their New England weeklies?
