NFL Week 4 -- Pederson wonders what's so special about Philly, anyway

Tirico (and other pxp'ers) is obsessed with the term "athletic training staff," like it came from a League directive.
Certified athletic trainers seem to have a lobby of some sort that has drilled that into the heads of, well, the talking heads. They're keenly interested in differentiating themselves from personal trainers, I suppose.

The Buccaneers finished with six rushing attempts, which tied three other teams for the second-fewest ever in an NFL game. The Bucs set the record with five attempts in a 2020 game against the Saints.
Their 3 rushing yards weren't even close to the record of -53 yards, though. A bunch of teams have finished in negative yardage.

Concussion protocols would become football McCarthyism, with teams accusing other teams' quarterbacks of being concussed.

Let's just leave it to the doctors and make sure the doctors are not working from compromised circumstances or pressures.

How is that done? Leaving things as they are is not acceptable. The system clearly failed this past week.

I'm not saying you allow opposing teams to have a say in it. Of course, you would have a problem there.

Given how drunk people are at games (not saying that's the case here), I'm surprised it doesn't happen more.

Some of those upper decks are steeeeeeeep and even sober I walk carefully if ai'm in the first row.

Agreed. I've watched games from the upper level of that stadium. If you have a fear of heights, that would make you uncomfortable. I'm sure there will be some review of the safety measures on the escalators, but even if the person who fell wasn't drunk, there were people around him that likely were and you've got people jostling one another trying to get out of the stadium. With a game that wasn't decided until the final seconds, the rush to get out would have been even worse.

Steelers lost the game, but Pickett to Pickens gives Pittsburgh a nice future.

This might be a lost season for them with the Watt injury and the 1-3 start, but they might be a pretty good team in 2023.

It is a lost season. The Steelers have the Bills, Bucs, Dolphins, and Eagles in the next four weeks. They will most likely be 1-7 going into their bye.

Watt makes a huge difference, obviously. I imagine they would at least be 2-2 with him, probably 3-1. The secondary was also decimated by the end of that game. They were missing four of their top six defensive backs after losing Edmunds to a concussion and Sutton to a hamstring injury. The Jets took great advantage of that on the final drive, doing most of their damage by attacking their replacements, Maulet and Norwood.

Tomlin doesn't seem to be the type to accept a season as lost this early. He didn't accept it in 2019, when things looked just as bleak. I think this may be different, which is probably part of why Pickett got his shot yesterday. If he is their future, the Steelers need to use this season to get him experience.

The ESPN Daily podcast had a good episode today with Alex Smith talking about his two concussions (one officially diagnosed) and the motivations not to be too forthcoming. Scary how skimpy the on the field/locker room protocols seem to be on game day.

It is way too easy to fool the system. I've spoken with high school athletes who could tell you how to do it.
