College football week 14 thread: ATLiens

This is where semantics enter the picture. Is "best" an educated guess or does best mean "teams with the best four seasons all told."
If you look closely at the thing @three_bags_full linked, it seems to be the former.

Re: the committee's mission: "The selection committee's task will be to select the best teams, rank the teams for inclusion in the playoff and selected other bowl games and then assign the teams to sites."

In the next section, the committee is instructed to use "a process that distinguishes among otherwise comparable teams ..." And as re: the "best teams" consideration, I can't fathom how anyone would say that FSU, with Travis out, and Bama/Georgia/Ohio State are even comparable.

In fact, as a result of reading through/thinking about all of that, had I been in the committee I'd probably have voted for Bama over FSU ... but I would have agonized over it. One, pish on Bama. Two, pish on the SEC. And three (even though I'm no fan of FSU), I feel really bad about FSU's loss of its quarterback.

This may be my favorite sj tangent of all time. Incredibly entertaining. Peak Internet.

That's twice in the last three years (thinking of the RB not staying inbounds late).

And while this one is not as egregious as the others, since they did deserve to be in the conversation, this is also at least the third time I can recall where Alabama weaseled its way into a playoff/BCS championship opportunity. They didn't win the SEC West in 2011 or 2017, but got a spot both times and went on to win the national title.
