At least half of it is what the left became in the last 20 or so years. It is the party of government, academia, much of journalism, the arts, the non-profit sector and the children of rich people. To the extent the poor and working class have a place in the party, it's out of loyalty.I've been trying to wrap my head around this. Dems HAVE been for working folks, particularly with union issues, support for working families, but the messaging became lost when the GOP made it seem like all the Dems cared about was DEI, LGBTQ and other issues that the working class really couldn't relate to, or feel impacted their lives in any way. A lot of it is the power of righty media.
It's hard to underestimate the antipathy that's set in and it's equally hard for many on the left to see it, because it means considering that, in plainest terms, they're not necessarily better people than Trump voters. And that's nearly an impossibility. It cannot be conceived.
