President Trump 2.0: The NEW one and only politics thread

I've been trying to wrap my head around this. Dems HAVE been for working folks, particularly with union issues, support for working families, but the messaging became lost when the GOP made it seem like all the Dems cared about was DEI, LGBTQ and other issues that the working class really couldn't relate to, or feel impacted their lives in any way. A lot of it is the power of righty media.
At least half of it is what the left became in the last 20 or so years. It is the party of government, academia, much of journalism, the arts, the non-profit sector and the children of rich people. To the extent the poor and working class have a place in the party, it's out of loyalty.

It's hard to underestimate the antipathy that's set in and it's equally hard for many on the left to see it, because it means considering that, in plainest terms, they're not necessarily better people than Trump voters. And that's nearly an impossibility. It cannot be conceived.

I've told this on here before. But I saw a Globetrotters show where the Generals made a last minute comeback by hitting a couple of shots from the four-point spot on the floor (yes, shots counted as four points) and went ahead by one with a few seconds left. The Trotters hustled down the floor; the Generals didn't exactly play 1990s Knicks vs. Heat defense; one of the Trotters dunked with a second or two remaining and the clock ran out.

I just kept imagining what would have happened if the Globetrotter had blown the dunk.
They have lost a time or two over the years.

Those who are on the side that all human beings are created equal and thus due to equal treatment under law are indeed better people than Trump voters. One heck of a lot better.

OK, but . . . "the law" says that an illegal immigrant is not entitled to "equal treatment" vis a vis a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. That's been the law under every administration.

One side seems more hellbent on enforcing those laws . . . to the point of being unconstitutional. They're wrong. But so is the other extreme ("they're picking your strawberries, so leave 'em alone!").

Like magnets repelling each other, it's like nobody can craft a reasonable solution. The GOP believes showing an ounce of empathy and compassion is weak, and the Dems think simply enforcing the laws properly aligns themselves too tightly with the Gestapo GOP.

Tuberville and Charlie Kirk. What a big FU to our young officers in training.

"On Monday, President Trump announced via Truth Social that he would be appointing U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., to the U.S. Air Force Academy's Board of Visitors. Tuberville was appointed to the board alongside retired Air Force Colonel Doug Nikolai, motivational speaker Dan Clark, far-right commentator Charlie Kirk and former Deputy National Security Advisor Dina Powell.

"The [Air Force Academy Board of Visitors] inquires into the morale, discipline, curriculum, instruction, physical equipment, fiscal affairs, academic methods and other matters relating to the Academy which the Board decides to consider," according to the Air Force Academy's official website.

"Our Military Service Academies should be building LEADERS for the greatest fighting force on earth…not 'social justice warriors.' I'm honored to be part of helping to restore that mission. Thank you, Mr. President!" Tuberville said in response to the appointment.

This appointment marks the next step in Tuberville's storied, if controversial, relationship with veterans and the armed forces community."

I went to the US Air Force Academy website to learn more about what a Board of Visitors is supposed to be involved in. But... DOGE has taken it down.

That is simply not true.

Immigrants - illegal or not - are entitled to due process. The Constitution says so in plain language and the Supreme Court has maintained that stance.

I never said anything about due process. There are plenty of other things they are not entitled to. Food stamps, medicaid, driver's licenses (in 34 states). . .

They do not get these things . . . because they do not get "equal treatment."
