I was gonna wonder why the Braves only have one selection when they're four games ahead in first place, but looking at the numbers, it sort of makes sense. Four of their starters are a combined .500, each either two above or two below, and their three home run leaders are hitting .252, .243 and .205. And the guy hitting .252 is on the DL.

Max Scherzer is currently 13-0. Not only that, but he came up with the Arizona Diamondbacks as a big prospect there, and was in their rotation at one point.

Not having heard of him makes me very skeptical about how big of a baseball fan you really are.

Agreed. Sale was also a fairly big prospect when he came up and he is in his third year in the majors. He was a very effective relief pitcher and sometimes closer in 2011 and had a big year as a starter in 2012.

I don't know how I can go on living if you are skeptical of my baseball fan status.

And I am not a huge baseball fan. I don't watch games unless a team I like is involved. I'm a college football fan, that I can watch all day.

Then why did you come on here and brag about not having heard of "13" American League All-Stars, like it was some indictment of the roster?

Andrelton Simmons honestly deserves it on defense alone. He's having one of the great fielding seasons ever. And he's not a terrible hitter. He's a terrible leadoff hitter, but not a terrible hitter.

The A's have the fourth-best record in baseball and had one selection. Just too bad for Josh Donaldson (.924 OPS and 15 homers) that he plays a position manned by Miguel Cabrera and Manny Machado. Heck, Donaldson might not even be the third choice with Longoria in the running too.

Rays in a weird spot too -- they are 49-40 and their only All-Star is Zobrist, who really shouldn't be there but fits in anywhere.

Only three Red Sox, too, and it's hard to say any of the others got jobbed, despite the team's record.

That the Brewers have two all-stars and one of them isn't Ryan Braun -- and that they're 17 games under .500 --- would have to be one of the bigger upsets of the season.

I suppose the 17 games under .500 part isn't a huge upset, but that they' have gotten such great performances from Segura and Gomez and are still 17 under .500 kind of defies logic.

Then again, as an anonymous scout has supposedly said, "there's a lot of quit on that team."
