2023 Time Person of the Year

Didn't you know? Women who like sex are whores. Men who like sex are studs.

I am a 48-year-old-man who has a college-age daughter who is a Swiftie, though really only for the music. (The kid doesn't take cues in dress or get caught up at all in the relationship stuff.) And, to my kid's credit, she'll call out songs she thinks miss the mark.

That said, I like Taylor. The kid can put on a long playlist in the car, and it's remarkable how consistent the pop songs are. And she can nail a phrase often that is really, truly, good writing.

I think my favorite Taylor Swift songs are in the future. I'm a huge fan of The National and the fact she has interest in that circle of music makes me think her middle age catalogue will age into what interests me more. And what she does now is perfectly fine pop music. It's not much of a leap from what she does with " Anti-Hero" to the indie rock of 10 years ago. You can tell, like Bowie, she finds germs of what she wants her music to be and then does an admirable job of incorporating it into her style. I think she has the opportunity to take that further in middle age.

I'd wager in the biggest Swiftie on this board.
She's enormously talented, and I'll fight all the Trumpists who say otherwise.

Also: She's got a great song or two aimed directly at the people who would call her promiscuous, though I suspect the point would fly squarely over their heads.

As far as her "promiscuity" goes, virtually any man I know who was as good looking, popular, and filthy rich as Swift is would likely be far more so, at least until their marriage. The difference is the perception of male behavior in that sort of zone of opportunity is very different. Add that if she didn't live under a microscope where every dinner out with someone was subject to photography and the gossip magazine industry there would be far less talk of her relationship status.
