2023 World Series TV Rating

I watched Mitch Williams & Co. blow a 14-9 lead to the Blue Jays in the eighth inning in a cold drizzle at the 1993 World Series.

Time of game: 4 miserable hours and 14 miserable minutes.

Marketing Guy - What the World Series needs is a halftime show!

MLB could do a better job getting celebrities to show up at games, do SOMETHING to interest people in watching the first four games. As much as we rip the Olympics TV coverage for the soft features about athletes and the obstacles they overcome to get there, the corporate jingoism of Super Bowl ads - the World Series has none of that. The best thing they do is the Taco Bell steal a base, steal a taco deal.

Big markets will provide a bump, but what drives ratings is national fan bases. Yankees, Dodgers and Red Sox provide both, but teams with big fandoms like the Cardinals, Cubs and Braves (the latter two owing to years of cable games) will also draw eyeballs.
The big market teams were welcome to win enough games to get to the Series any time they wanted.

bte-

I don't mind sitting for four hours with friends, family or a pretty girl. never understood this argument.

I know I've waited longer for SEC football games to end and was just as miserable about it as anyone watching baseball in the rain - fact.

Don't underestimate the "Mitch Williams & Co. blowing a 14-9 lead in the eighth inning" part of the misery equation.

Nearly all FBC games I've seen this year have clocked in around 3:30 running time. I'm not a fan of how they got there (less football, same amount of ads) but the stopwatch doesn't lie.

Dixie, that is still too damned long. These are supposed to be timed contests. When I have some time later I'd like to see which conference has the longest games.
