30 for 30 running thread

I wish there was more Youtube out there on Cosell. I was about very young when he was in his prime and around 12 or 13 when the "monkey" thing hit the fan and the Tex Cobb fight.

But man, do three words ever say more than "Down goes Frazier?"

I finally watched the Ali-Holmes doc on the DVR. What a touching moment toward the end with Ali in the limo. He asks the director what Holmes said about him, and the director respond, "He likes you." The Ali, who had been so brash with the crowds around him watching him spar, says quietly and with a sweet little smile, "I like him."

What a wonderful, telling moment that had been sitting in a film can all of these years.

To go off-topic a bit more here, IIRC, the Cosell estate was preventing the release of some tapes of Howard, like the later MNF broadcasts, because he was obviously drunk in a lot of them. Adam Carolla and Dr. Drew were complaining about it a couple years ago on Loveline, because he was the one media personality you couldn't see anything from at the Radio and Television Hall of Fame.

I heard Jimmy Johnson on the radio morning say that "The U" was accurate. It's not pretty, but it is accurate.

That is all I need to hear.

This is the one 30 for 30 I have been waiting to see since the series started. God did I hate those Miami teams, but there's no doubting the characters on that team. Should be facinating.

This, except I loved those Miami teams. I love me some shiptalking!

Most of these I have no interest in, this one will be tivoed.

I've heard the USFL one is great. I need to see that one.

It's small potatoes.

That is a good line. The scene where the guy hands Trump the $3 cheque is priceless.

I'm with Chester wholeheartedly. I can't wait to see this Saturday night and relive why I hated them and at the same admired the ship out of those Hurricanes for being bad ashes.

If you have nothing to do between now and tomorrow night, check out YouTube and watch another piece by Billy Corben called "Cocaine Cowboys." I believe HBO ran the show about 1-2 years ago. Corben, with "Cowboys" and "The U" describes in near perfect detail about life in Miami during the 80's: forked up and wild.

Enjoyed it thoroughly. It was a good documentary.

Trump's obliviousness to his role in destroying the league is hilarious and sad at the same time, especially when you hear everyone else talk about how the league could have survived in the spring. Tollin hit all the right notes here.

I did have one question, though ... was that Bernie Kosar or Artie Lange?

I called my mom (who LOVED Bernie with the Browns) and held the phone up to the TV because she hadn't heard drunk/slurring Bernie. She was distraught.

I loved the movie, but I'm biased.
