30 for 30 running thread

The only complaint I have so far is that it seems if you miss one the first day or two after it airs, they don't re-run it until two months later. I missed "Straight Outta L.A." because I was out of town and it's not airing again until late July.

They should run a 30 for 30 marathon on ESPN Classic one day, but I guess that would cut into all the poker and bowling they usually show on that network. Also, the "30 for 30" show times page on ESPN.com is not always accurate. They should make these films available to view on the website after a week or so (perhaps for ESPN Insiders only).

Or maybe I should just get a DVR ...

I'm looking forward to this one because I remember that day. I was pumped because the Rangers had just won the Stanley Cup (19-40 whooo!). My cousin and I had been playing golf and pulled back into the driveway. My mom opened the door and shouted for us to come inside to see all the O.J. stuff.

I think they're not replaying the eff out of these like their usual programming because they're selling them on iTunes. If I recall correctly, most of them are $1 to $5.

This is really lame. Just a bunch of news clips from that day all strung together. I guess it's good for nostalgia, but I can't imagine any young uns learning about why this was such an historic day fom watching this.

I remember that night really well...it was the first night I was trusted with laying out Page 1. And I get the Bronco chase, with no definitive ending, unlike, say, a big fire where you just get a little more detail for each succeeding edition.
I just felt buffeted by events way beyond our control that night. Luckily, our ME stayed around to do some bureaucratic BS, and she helped manage things in the composing room,
The final product was nothing I've ever showed off for prospective employers, but doing Page 1 was a piece of cake after that night.

This is weirding me out like you wouldn't believe .... I was a 17-year-old usher at Kauffman Stadium that night and they are showing clips of the Royals-Mariners game. I remember seeing people in the stands glued to their video Walkmans, thinking that they were keeping an eye on the NBA Finals (what a quaint device that was) and all of a sudden, a couple of innings into the game, these signs start popping up in the stands, referencing the Bronco chase. It spread like wildfire. Just nuts.

I felt that way as well to begin with, but thought the filmmakers pulled it off. They did a good job of showing that on a sports day that was already huge, the O.J. saga trumped all of it. You don't really need talking heads rehashing O.J.'s fall from grace to explain that.

I really liked the behind-the-scenes news footage, particularly NBC's off-camera discussions of how to handle the simultaneous NBA Finals Game 5 and Bronco chase. It was amazing how Bob Costas felt almost like he had to apologize for NBC not cutting away from a world-championship event to the O.J. Watch.

Also, the juxtaposition of the Rangers' championship parade and the Bronco chase was fascinating. The euphoria on the faces of those in each crowd was eerily similar.

Oh, and one more thing ... that Mariners broadcaster telling off-color O.J. jokes between innings? Chip Caray. Some things never change.

I agree. Lots of look backs of late have been people in front of a camera rehashing their "memories." Yes, a lot of news clips, but the filmmakers pulled it off, pulling in all of the historic events with no commentary, and the behind-the-scenes stuff was excellent.
