Alabama basketball player charged with capital murder

If the victim had been a pretty, 21-year-old white woman, would Miller still be on the team?

They should have come up with a new one on Jan. 15.
If this has been going on all year, it seems like that makes it even more offensive.

How the heck does Oats keep his job? "I didn't know what my players do for starting five celebrations," or whatever nonsense he spewed.

Oh, that's right. It wasn't a pretty blonde white girl like Natalee Holloway who was killed.
Edit: tapintoamerica beat me to it.

Is college basketball at the point now where a player with a big NIL deal will play until the alum/sponsor lets the coach know its okay for the guy to sit? Just aren't that many coaches I think who have the control over their program that someone like Saban has over the Bama football program. And hoops being what is is - two or three studs make a huge difference. Coaches with integrity have a sneaky habit of becoming ex-coaches pretty quickly.

This sounds hilarious in retrospect but my biggest fear when Nate Oats was hired was that he would be a Dabo Swinney Bible thumper type.

I have no idea if it is true or not, but a comment on one of the Twitter posts I saw said that has been his introductory "hand shake" all year long. I guess, foreshadowing. Regardless, not a good look at this point.

It was an opportunity for Nate Oaks to show a shred of integrity and the school to wipe away a little of this latest stain on its reputation. One reason not to suspend him or punish him in any other way after the shooting is that would be an acknowledgement that he did something wrong. Once they do that, maybe people point out that it isn't enough.

Now he has been involved in something smaller, but still important. They could suspend him for a game for the pat down, explain that he and everyone involved takes the shooting seriously. Of course, Oaks missed that opportunity, as did Alabama, because they have no interest in doing the right thing.

Nate Oaks?

I've bitched about the arrogant assholes that make up the University of Alabama Board of Trustees ever since I began posting here.

There's nothing new here, it's just that people are watching it nationally. It's the worst example I can readily think of, but it certainly fits the pattern.
