The guys in the Temptations who had basically discovered the Supremes also got treated very badly by her and quite resented it. When the two groups (who used to be known as the Primes and the Primettes) did a TV special together in about 1968, she wouldn't associate with anyone off-stage.

The late Paul Williams, who left the Tempts and eventually killed himself, went apeshirt when he was told he now had to refer to Diane as "Miss Ross." He wondered aloud why he now had to clear it with a half-dozen people before he was permitted to speak to someone who, in his opinion, would never have made it out of the Detroit ghettos had it not been for him and the rest of his group.
