Car drives into Bourbon Street crowd, kills at least 10

Kennedy was ridiculous and grandstanding as well. I just didn't like the bullying from Landry over reasonable nuts and bolts questions that needed to be asked. That whole press conference was a ship show for all involved.

I agree with you regarding Kennedy and Landry, but I don't think that is true of everyone who spoke. I didn't care for having all those politicians speak, but I thought Rep. Troy Carter did a good job getting back to a message of unity and strength with a focus on keeping people safe and making sure any co-conspirators are caught. That is where the message needed to be and people like Carter and the mayor of New Orleans both knew it.

My point was, I'm hoping we can keep this thread as apolitical as possible since it's a big news story. It seemed to be sliding the other way the last page or two.

That's what should happen, but it is difficult not to get political at all when so many politicians spoke at the press conference. Some of them stepped up and acquitted themselves well and some only stepped in ship.

Carter did a good job. So did the police chief. They did what you're supposed to do at those press conferences — give information you know, don't speculate on what you don't, and try to squash rumors before they get out of control, all while projecting both calm and empathy.
I didn't think the mayor was buffoonish like Kennedy and especially Landry were, but she also seemed like she was in over her head. It was pretty clear she was not in charge of anything. The FBI took over the investigation from the start. The governor, Kennedy and even Carter overshadowed her at the presser. The police chief seemed to have a better handle on the on-the-ground response. Maybe she was delegating, or maybe the governor and feds don't trust her to run this thing, but it sure seemed like she was shoved aside in very short order.

Oh look, some parking spots opened up with the game postponed. What say we grab a bite?

EDIT: The governor must read this board because he nuked the tweet seconds later.

I clicked on it and it came up ... 5.5 million views of complete ignorance.

Tone deaf this was and Landry is a tremendous ashhole, but I'll bet his malfunctioning frontal lobes thought, "this'll show everybody New Orleans is still safe."

I'm guessing that was the thought. Or at least his social media team's thought.
