I've enjoyed living vicariously through a friend's feed this week as she explores New York as part of something called The Band Directors' Marching Band, an ad hoc unit that will be in the Macy's parade. Pretty neat recognition after a quarter-century of working as a middle school band director.

Per usual, I'm spending Turkey Day by myself making a dip, eating said dip

ID the dip, please. I like dip.

Was at a gathering recently where there was the bread bowl spinach dip thing and I started looking for coke.

For those who have experienced both - what are the differences between Canadian Thanksgiving and Real Thanksgiving? Is there football on the day? Parades? Other traditions?

Eh, the Canucks will say it's the same thing, but there's poutine, Canadian bacon, Klik and 50s involved.

Going to spend turkey day with dad, his partner and her family. Last year was at the in-laws' (including my brother-in-law and his separated wife. Hoping for less awkward this year). Going to be fun. Little Spartan (my 2 year old not something else, you filthy minded so-and-so) should have fun with other littles to play with.

Just finished some salsa for before dinner snacking. I always end up making it spicier than I intended. Must be angry about something…

If you really pay attention, NBC's parade coverage combines the worst of what it does with the Olympics and Indy Car racing.

May you all have a wonderful and safe holiday.

I learned something from a fellow, a purely random encounter on the streets a few years ago, in which he said something to me which I often repeat nowadays:

"Every day is a blessing."

That simple statement, incorporating gratefulness and thankfulness, has stuck with me in good times and in bad.

Peace to all of you, my sisters and brothers.

Happy Thanksgiving,
VB
