DC plane crash

My wife was on one of those American regional jets to Reagan last week from Indy, at night. Just awful.

DCA is my home airport. I don't fly as much as I used to, but I used to be there a lot. I never felt unsafe, but the amount of helicopter traffic in the area is pretty high. There were some issues with helicopter noise over residential areas a few years ago and I think they changed some of the flight paths.

I take nearly all of my domestic flights out of Richmond because it's such an easy airport and only go up to Dulles to catch international flights. Flew into DCA a ton when I was out in Arizona coming back to visit, though. So many military bases in the area, which probably complicates things.

Thanks, bro. Give Johnny Bananas a "what's up" for me.

Of all places, Washington seems to be a particularly bad choice to have a laissez faire attitude about where helicopters go. With all the high-profile targets I would have expected airspace restrictions there to by micromanaged down to the square inch.

Twitter is an absolute cesspool of conspiracy theories on this. Best to not look. I deactivated my account on election day and haven't looked back, but our company account is still active. We haven't posted anything since last May and are quietly removing X from our list of social media icons on our website/communications.

I ain't never been a helicopter pilot, but it sure seems to me like there might be better places to conduct annual night flying evaluations than in the D.C. airspace. What do I know though? Flying with nightvision. WTF.
