Do you have a personal website?

Quick question for everybody on the board - and if this has been asked, I apologize.

Do you have your own website where you post clips and such? Should you have one? Why or why not?

Just wondering, cause that idea has been bouncing around in my head lately.

Can't hurt to register the URL of your name. Even if you just park it and never add content to it, it prevents someone else from doing it to you.

If I were a 'name' journalist, I'd do it in a hurry. Even I weren't a 'name' journalist, I'd still do it.

But I'd be careful about the content I put on it. No whining about my boss, no links to porn, no political bellyaching, etc. That's just me, though. I imagine there are some who'd have no problem posting pictures of their nekked bits and rants about their employers.

I have a personal Web site at Del_B_Vista.com (OK, it's my actual name.com) and it has a brag sheet, resume' and not-updated-for-awhile PDF of clips. I've thought about starting a blog on there, but haven't felt motivated yet.

I had a big personal Web site 6-8 years ago, with links to every team in baseball, football, basketball and hockey. Called it the "Black Hole of Links." Sort of ran out of steam on it after 2-3 years, as you might expect with it taking up 150+ pages.

I've got one listed under my first and last name -- buddy of mine bought it for me a couple years back. The intention of it was that I was going to leave a job a while back and start freelancing. Ended up getting another job instead.
But as Idaho said, no one else will ever be able to get that address. The possibility might come up again in the future, so i'm glad I have it.

A former co-worker uses his as an extended resume. He has 20+ clips on there, his entire resume (don't have to worry about cutting it to a single page) and a short bio. I think it would be a good thing to include on an application ("If you would like see more clips, feel free to visit popedirkbenedict.com.")

Should I be concerned that some big name-cybersquatting company already has registered my fullname.com site?

Edit: I'm 99.99 percent sure I'm the only person alive or dead who has ever had my name.

Well, since Mizzou has never anointed me a fucking stud, I'm pretty sure I'm not.

If somone has your name registered, try something like www.yournameclips.com or something like that. And yes, I'm hoping it works well. I think the best approach is to simply use it as strictly professional site to post your resume and clips. Yahoo has a pretty cheap domain buying program and a free site builder if you don't want to deal with html.
