Fore please! Running Masters thread

No worries - and I know the long quote boxes can make it difficult. But dang man, why on earth would I jump your ass like that??

Given the number of times viewers have apparently called in to report violations, would it not make sense to have a scoring official of some description actually watch the telecast? There's gotta be some Masters overlord watching it anyway to make sure that no one says anything that might imply that Augusta National isn't where rainbows are born.

my reaction exactly -- but i've been beat up so badly 'round here of late i'm seeing enemieslurking in the shadows everywhere.

I've always been anti Tiger and would probably laugh my ass off if he was DQ'd, but in situations like this golf needs to get over itself. In this day and age of rules people on ever hole, if the rules official didn't have a problem with it by the time he putted out on the hole, then it's over. It reminds me of covering a high school tournament once where a kid tried to get another DQ'd after the round for an alleged infraction four or five holes from the end. He was asked "Did anyone else see it?" "No." "Did you call him on it right then?" "No. I wanted to wait until he signed his scorecard." "Tough shirt."

I am not your enemy. And if someone is beating you up, we will send a posse after them. bring them back on a platter. Go all Tiger 9-iron on them. Beat their brains in and them drop them somewhere illegally. And not go to jail.

Two yards back is not "as nearly as possible."

Correct, but two yards back is two club-lengths. An easy-to-remember heuristic is that if you're getting free relief, you get one club-length, if you're taking a penalty stroke you get two. Clearly Tiger mixed up the two*, but clearly he and the most of the rest of the golf-watching world did, too.

*The "as near as possible" and "two club-lengths" ...

It'll be interesting to see how Tiger treats CBS if network personnel were the ones to alert the rules committee. Was Natzy trying to eliminate a competitor on behalf of his boy Couples? He would have done better by eliminating the last five holes instead.

Has anyone gotten reaction from Nicklaus on all this? Wonder what he thinks.

I don't think Tiger will win. Too many other guys who have been there before between him and the top. Sure Cabrera is the only one with a major, but Leishman is the only one without a top 3 Masters finish.

Does Mike Pereira know anything about golf?
