Fore please! Running Masters thread

Holy crap.

Tiger absolutely robbed on 15. Hits the flagstick on 15 with his third -- and it bounces back into the water.

Wow -- tournament officials dock Guan one-stroke penalty for slow play.

Got to be kidding me. Ridiculous.

The other half of the department mentioned the same marshal assessed a delay penalty a few years back that Tiger laughed at ...

Absolutely nuts to dock the kid. First, you've got a language barrier. Second, he's 14. Third, it's the freak' Masters and there are many other slower-pokes out there. And to "send a message" with that it's lunacy.

That said ... he made the cut. But still ...

I agree and disagree with the penalty (#waffle). The kid was warned multiple times, and Crenshaw grudgingly said that the kid was slow. There's an art to playing slowly, which the slugs of the PGA Tour know in order to avoid penalties, and the kid didn't know them. (Of course, there's no teeth in the Tour's slow play policy.) By all accounts, the Euro Tour official who dinged Guan is respected.

All that said, he got penalized on the 17th hole. That seems pretty rough. Anyway, the club avoided a huge shirtstorm by Day finishing at 6 under and not 7.

I loathe slow play. It pisses me off to no end. But they've got to think about the situation. Got to cut him a little more slack in this situation. Pull him aside after the round and go into him. Instead, the best story of the week going and they assess the first penalty for slow play in the HISTORY of the tournament. Again, he's 14.

Graeme McDowell had a pretty good point, via Twitter:

What message are we trying to send out to the world giving the 14 yr old kid a shot penalty today? It was a 6 hr round. Why single him out?

Unless this kid was the sole reason guys were out there for six hours this was a stupid decision regardless of how well thought of the official is.

He wasn't. The rule book says a threesome should be finished in four hours, 38 minutes. Tiger's group teed off at 1:41 EDT and finished after 7 p.m. EDT, closer to 7:30 p.m. EDT. Where's their penalty?

It's an embarrassment and a joke and was handled terribly. And the club slightly got off the hook since the kid made the cut, but the club (or, actually, the rules official) should still be assailed to no end.

They would never penalize Tiger for that in a major tourney.

Twitter is a-blaze right now about an alleged illegal drop Tiger took on 15.

If there is video evidence of that, the penalty is disqualification. They'll have no choice but to DQ him.
