A bit before my time, but the Hollies were Britain's answer to The Beach Boys in terms of vocal harmonies. Great singers in that group!
Others came afterward for certain, but the Beatles set the standard (or at least were the vanguard) with their modal harmonies that hadn't been heard on these shores before.

I always thought of the Hollies as a late 60s/early 70s act stateside.

The Hollies were definitely an Invasion band. "Look Through Any Window" was a 1965 release.

Their harmonies were great, yes, but the band did little things musically that made them stand out. There's a tempo shift in "Look Through Any Window" that catches the ear. "Bus Stop" is an upbeat lyric performed in a minor key. On "Stop! Stop! Stop," Tony Hicks strums a banjo like a tamburitza.

The band suffered a tremendous loss with the departure of Graham Nash. After that, Alan Clarke's voice dominated and the very talented Tony Hicks seemed to fade into the background. There were a few more big hits, but the innovative spirit was gone.
