Grammys Thread

I don't see why I need a stylist
When I shop so much I can speak Italian

Indeed. Those are some deep lyrics.

Did you gloss over what I said in my reply?

It may not be lyrically advanced in the topic, but it's advanced in his rhyme scheme. He puts words together unlike many rappers today. If I had to rank the best rap artists when it comes to blending rhymes and styles, it would go...Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, Eminem

Sorry, but I'm not hearing it...'stylist/Italian'... Is that what you're referring to as advanced rhyme scheme? Or is it 'We was sorta like Will Smith and his son/In the movie, I ain't talkin 'bout the rich ones'...

Where is the advanced part?

Kanye West maybe whiny and very arrogant, but one thing about him is that he has charisma. West is a talented performer and has taken rap to a level in cross-production that Run-DMC once did and now beyond.
I GOT Run-DMC's superstardom.

Kanye, OTOH, makes no sense. Marketers are telling people it is important to like his cap.... so, in our lemming nation, it is being lapped up.

Really, you can't talk about lyrics without starting here:

THIS IS THE SONG THAT DOESN'T ENNNNND
YES IT GOES ON AND ON MY FRIEEEENDS,
SOME PEOPLE STARTED SINGING IT NOT KNOWING WHAT IS WAS
AND THEY'LL CONTINUE SINGING IT FOREVER JUST BECAUSE

Well, I'm incapable of seeing Amy Winehouse's talent. We all have our blind spots. ;)

You're just distracted by her bad makeup and beehive.

Yes. All I can think of is failed cosmetology school student.

That's Beauty School Dropout to you... someone should write a song about that....

Is there any real difference between Album of the Year and Record of the Year? Or is it just a way to honor another performance?

If I recall correctly, Record of the Year can be a single or an album. Singles aren't really covered otherwise, since Song of the Year is strictly a songwriting award.

I always chuckle -- every year -- when the SportsJournalists.com culture police uses the Grammys to bench about how lame rap music is, and how the fad will be ending any day now.

"These no talent frauds should turn down that racket!"

Album of the year goes to the top album. Record of the year is for a top single and goes to the artist. Song of the year is for a top single and goes to the songwriter.
