Grammys Thread

The bravado stuff is mostly for show. He's one of the few rappers out there who has ever had the balls to rap about how freaking insecure he really is.

That seems like a bit of a contradiction.

Sometimes the most insecure people put up a front to make you think they're confident, but when it comes down to it, they aren't. Plus, why would you go see a musical act if the person was insecure on stage? Might as well have some fun with it.

It takes courage, especially in the rap genre, to admit that you're conflicted about the choices you make. "Diamonds of the Sierra Leone" is a good example of why Kanye is different than most of the artists who make similar music.

Favorite moment last night: Morris Day and the Time!

Wait ... Morris Day and the Time performed!?! And I missed it!?!

Damn, damn, damn.

He never was recognized as the true star of "Purple Rain."

I downloaded "Jungle Love" and "The Bird" from iTunes right after the show ended.

Am watching a replay of the Grammys and let me say for the record: Kanye West appears once again to be a deck-headed, me-person.
He did have a "sports" angle, with that neck-roll he was wearing as part of his costume.
The big, white sunglasses looked pretty deck-headed.

The best part of what I've seen is the Aretha gospel montage.
That woman's still got it, by damn.
Got something Kanye'll never have.

Somewhere in a box in the attic, I have the entire Morris Day collection. His work with The Time. His solo albums. You name it. If I just had a way to transfer cassettes (and cassingles) to iTunes, I'd be set.

The medley with Jerry Lee Lewis and Fogerty and Little Richard was good.
I enjoyed Vince Gill razzing on Kanye, after Ringo handed him his Grammy.
Gill's cool, grounded, professional, real.
Amy Winehouse did very well. I liked her sound.
I wonder, does she write the music AND the lyrics for her stuff?
If so, she's talented.
Glad she's back up and running smoother.

I always chuckle -- every year -- when the SportsJournalists.com culture police uses the Grammys to bench about how lame rap music is, and how the fad will be ending any day now.

"These no talent frauds should turn down that racket!"
And it will.

Yep, that rap music, going on 20 years now, should end any minute. It's certainly not a billion dollar industry ingrained in white suburban America or anything.

Wait...
