Henry Schulman leaving the SF Chronicle

Funny dude. Competed against him in some fantasy leagues, liked the shout out to Bob Valli. Local teams would be wise to put such institutional knowledge on retainer. Not so much to write puff pieces, but to have someone who knows the history as well as the longtime fans do.

It's pretty obvious the veteran reporters have finally had enough. You can say all you want about the value of video and hosting podcasts (for no extra money mind you, you are lucky you know to have a job) and being a prisoner of social media 24/7 and fighting pro and college PR departments for access. Or Maybe the pandemic has made them realize life is too short to put up with this crap or the fact their work is so poorly valued by the suits (no raises EVER), but it's pretty obvious the reporters who have been around a while are done and they know it. Henry is a supurb talent. The business doesn't deserve him anymore. And the suits from the hedge funds don't want anybody making over 28,000 dollars a year any more.

Her work is excellent.

As someone who has no idea, would the Giants beat be seen as better/more prestigious than the A's?

I'll let the NoCals have at it.
But I do think the Giants have a lot more fans and are way more popular. Does that translate to coverage plans? The A's have become a better team, now, but with lots fewer fans.

Full disclosure: Giants fan here. For a San Francisco-based paper, I'd think they'd consider the Giants beat bigger.

Giants have always been the bigger deal in the Bay Area since they moved their first - they own a chunk of their flagship, the A's tend to have to shop for a new flagship every year. Even when the A's were dominant, they were always like the White Sox to the Cubs, the Mets to the Yankees and the Angels to the Dodgers. But the Giants aren't going to be doing jack in the NL West for at least five years. The A's could pull a couple of Wild Cards here and there.
