Here comes basketball season!

I think most pittsburghers on this board would agree with me on this:

Two years ago two of the biggest rivals in the area played in the district championship at the Palumbo. I was lucky enough to have attended. The place was packed to the brim. It went to three OT's and from the 4th quarter on, the basketball was incredible for a high school game. For some reason the details are hazy right now, so maybe someone else who saw it could help me out, but regulation and all 3 OT's ended in incredible fashion. The game was tied at the end of regulation on a 25 footer. Then after a few crazy plays to end the first 2 OT's the same kid who hit the shot to tie the game at the end of regulation hit a 40 footer with his team down 2 to end the game in the 3rd OT. What made the game so great was: the Palumbo was absolutely electric, the two teams are HUGE rivals and you could feel the 2 teams wanted to win so much and every time the game seemed like it was over somebody made a great play.

Allright, Indiana Clash 3A title game. Washington High School vs. Plymouth. After a frantic final quarter, Plymouth takes a late lead on a sick lay-in from a freshman (normally a reserve who had a crazy game). Washington has to go the length of the floor in about three seconds. Inexplicably, Plymouth doesn't guard the inbounds pash. Washington inbounds to Luke Zeller (now at Notre Dame) who takes the pash at half court, turns, and calmly shoots a jumper (not a half-court heave), nothing but net. For the friggin' state title. Best part about it? Zeller was expressionless. He just stood at half court with his hand raised from the follow through as his teammates mobbed him. That play was SportsCenter's top play that night. Sickest ship I've ever seen live.

Personally speaking...

A girl's basketball team wins by about 17. Okay. I head to their locker room to wait for the coach to come out.

After talking to his team, the coach opens the door to the locker room and walks over to talk to me.

However...

This is a very old gym in the ghetto. So old that the doors don't automatically close behind you.

He didn't know this.

Best interview EVER.

Oh yeah, for the record, I was 20 at the time. Making me somewhat less sick.
Cradle Robber is lookinig for you. I think you were checking out his girlfriend.

This dude from the Cavs was guarding me...Craig Ehlo, I think. Anyway, I pulled up for a jumper from the top of the key and drained it.
