Jim Trotter out at SI?

Why the question mark? From his feed:

Was informed today the budget ax got me. Want to thank SI for 7 great years.

Unless, of course, he's been hacked, which happens, I suppose. But, yes, it does seem he has been caught up in the budget ax. Been there. Not fun.

I worked with Jim at the U-T way back when. Good guy, good reporter.

Sorry to hear this. Hope he moves on to something good.

He was a contributor to MMQB. He must not have paid proper respect to
The King.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was making a lot more than the recent NFL hires, which is why he was targeted.

Yessir.

I'm not blown away by some of SI's recent hires.

I like USA Today's group, over the last several years, much more.

They have an awful lot of people covering the same thing. Trotter was one of the better ones, but it's overload any way you look at it.

I'm sure he'll find a soft landing, roll of the dice says NFL.com/Network.

I don't know Trotter well, but there are a few writers who seem to connect with players better than most and I always got that sense with him. With a lot of those guys, those relationships impact how they cover a team or the league and I never thought it was like that with Trotter. I always thought he did a great job.

I thought Bedard was a great hire. He's one of those rare guys where you read some of his stories and think, "I've never seen someone do a story like this..." and that's really rare with the NFL.

Agreed. Always went out of my way to read his work at The Globe. Perhaps he gets
to technical for some but I prefer his approach of watching "all 22's " and breaking
down games as a coach would.
