Files whistleblower lawsuit.

Former Penn State University assistant football coach Mike McQueary, whose graphic testimony helped convict Jerry Sandusky on child sex abuse charges, filed a whistleblower lawsuit today against the school, claiming defamation and misrepresentation.
Mr. McQueary, whose contract with the school ended June 30, was barred from coaching after Sandusky's arrest in November. While his testimony about witnessing Sandusky sexually assault a boy in a locker room shower was important to the case against the former coach, he was also widely panned for reporting the incident to then-head coach Joe Paterno instead of to police.
In the lawsuit, filed in Centre County, Mr. McQueary said the treatment was "discriminatory and caused the plaintiff much distress, anxiety and embarrassment."
According to the lawsuit, then-university president Graham Spanier attempted to make him a "scapegoat" in expressing support for retired vice president Gary Schultz and athletic director Tim Curley, who contradicted Mr. McQueary's testimony.

He was hardly blameless, but he was also scapegoated.

There will be hundreds of millions of dollars paid out in upcoming lawsuits and settlements; he might as well get some.

I hope he wins. Lord knows he's young and will hardly be able to get a job in coaching.

Especially since he'll never coach again.

I wouldn't say that; he's young enough. Ten or 15 years from now, he could resurface somewhere.

He didn't handle the situation correctly, but the university totally threw him under the bus.

curious why this is being called in reports a whistleblower lawsuit? it doesn't look like one to me (disclosure: non-attorney).

What on earth did he expect? To be labeled a hero and have them errect a statue of him outside the stadium? C'mon, can't be that naive, can he?

He reported a crime to a university official. He's claiming he got defamed by the president of said university because he reported that crime. That makes this a whistleblower lawsuit.
