Murray Chass is back

Doesn't say a lot about Murray's site, though.

And the "will somebody think of the hotels!" crap is too much. The NBA Finals has people flying in from dozens of countries, and the medial availability sessions are enormous. Outside of North and South America, who is flying in and worried about whether or not they have to go to Cleveland or Detroit?

One thing for sure the blogger that Murray probably has in mind when he takes out bloggers is Seth Mnookin.

I did not read Mnookin's book on the Times. I am wondering if he has some unfavorable things to say about Chass in said book.

I can guarentee you all that the site is real and not a hoax. I have talked to Murray about it. I have tried to stay out of this sometimes vicious site because a) Murray is a friend of mine, and b) I know he can often be a curmudgeon. So feel free to criticize but try not to be so vicious about. The man is expressing an opinion and he's entitled to that, just as you're entitled to disagree with it.

I'll just end with the hope that we all get along and agree that there are differences of opinion. Isn't that what makes discussion worthwhile? Call me a sap if you want, but that is, after all, my personality.

I've been trying to get that across for several pages now. Maybe they'll listen to you.

But, let's face it, Murray does bring some of it on himself, though. Maybe starting a war with BLOGGERS! and stat heads is a stroke of marketing brilliance from the site operator?

I can assure you that Murray is not doing anything for marketing purposes. If he has an opinion, many of which I have disagreed with over the years, it is because Murray passionately believes in it. Murray is a very principled person. Having spoken to Murray during my recent week in New York, his site is very much in its infancy. There are a lot of issues that have to be addressed, but Murray was committed to having it running by the All-Star Game so he hasn't worked out all the bugs. He plans to add a system that allows feed back and he expects to have an email that works.
I will say it is too bad when because people don't agree there so often seems a need for viciousness -- from all sides.

Actually, I was thinking that other than jr repeatedly calling Murray a classless brick, this discussion has been a pretty fair balance of praise and criticism.

To paraphrase the late, great Senator Moynihan, Murray Chass is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts.

Sigh.

I've been reading Murray Chass for years. As far as I'm concerned he's one of the top baseball writers around.

That said, I think his speech lacked class given the circumstances and setting of the award. Others, including a very well known columnist seemed to agree with me.

I also said that yes, he sounded like a miserable old brick--which he did.

I did not, however, call him a "classless brick"

Try harder.

I think if I was going to quote someone hurling a line like that at a known entity I would at least do a quick scan through the thread to see if my recollections were correct.

None of this starts if Chass doesn't, without provocation, throw these huge lobs at people with the NY Times column from years ago and the "About" page of his website. It was needless, and below even the skeeviest of bloggers.

I dunno - I'd say that 21 paraphrased jr pretty well:

Yup.

Everything Murray Chass said in his speech may be true.

The HOF induction ceremony is not the place to vent your spleen.

Like I said before, he sounded (from the transcript posted here) like a miserable old brick.

No class and a lack of manners.

Boom, learn to:

1) Read.
2) use the quote function.

Also, 21's a big girl. Presumably she doesn't need you chirping in on her behalf.
