NASCAR running thread

Wow this is incredible!!! ... We all know qualifying at Daytona has as much impact on the race as the first game of the season has on the NCAA Tournament.

Wake me win she wins the pole at Bristol, Charlotte or The Glen.

Edit: Bet Stenhouse gets laid tonight.

If you honest to god think Tony Stewart isn't more than 200 pounds, I don't know what to tell you.
Never been around him ... he's not all that tall, is he? I was just going by his reported weight.

I have been around him. He's about 5-8, 5-9. Probably 240-250 or so, if I had to guess.

NASCAR please pick up the white courtesy phone. Line 1 is TMZ, Line 2 is Extra and Line 3 is Inside Edition.

This week is going to be insane for coverage.

Also, Patrick, whose weight is listed as 100 lbs., is 100-plus pounds shy of just two drivers -- Newman and Michael Waltrip -- who tried to qualify today.

I've made it without seeing a single second of racing, but was scrolling through my FB feed and saw a post from Mike Massaro saying "Just finished my interview with the Daytona 500 pole winner" over a pic of him and Danica. I nearly choked on my soda.
IJAG, your posts on this thread are always pure gold. LMAO!

It will be interesting to see her running up front, not having to worry about other drivers as much. How many laps has she led in NASCAR?

Looked it up: Four, all in the last Nationwide race at Homestead.

If she ever wins a Cup pole at The Glen, I'll drink motor oil. She's serviceable on ovals but won't sniff a top-10 in a road course race.

I love all the people that feel the need to start citing little-known drivers who won the 500 pole, just to show that this isn't a meaningful accomplishment. They all did the exact same thing when David Gilliland won the pole, right? Oddly, they never point out the times that Cale Yarborough won the pole, or Dale Earnhardt Sr., or Richard Petty, or Jimmie Johnson, or Jeff Gordon.

If she wins the race, I don't think she'll be to Victory Lane before Monte Dutton starts tweeting about Pete Hamilton, Ward Burton and Derrick Cope.

I'd agree. She's not a road course racer but you never know. The sun shines on a rat's every once in a while. Would you like that oil chilled?

I wouldn't completely rule her out for a top-10 finish on a road course. She had some good finishes in IndyCar on street courses, and she was OK in the Nationwide race at Road America last year. She'll have good equipment, and it isn't like there are that many road-course aces in the field. She's a smart driver, and when she's comfortable, she's pretty good at picking up spots late in a race. Once she gets some experience, I suspect she'll have some races, including road courses, where she finishes a very quiet 6th.

(Well, she'll never finish a very quiet anything, given the constant spotlight, but the kind of race where it would be a very quiet 6th for a normal driver.)
