NFL Week 13 -- What About Love?

Funny how little secrets behind curtain #3 find their way to the front of the board.

Explaining two unlikely returns

Never has the phrase "window to return" meant so much and been understood so little. The Jets opened the abyss yesterday by designating Aaron Rodgers to return from injured reserve, just a little more than two months after his Achilles tear.

A few notes:
  • The designation means Rodgers can practice with the team, but does not mean he's set to return anytime soon. The team now has 21 days to activate Rodgers. If they decide after three weeks that Rodgers cannot play, his season will be over.

  • Both Rodgers and Jets coach Robert Saleh said this week the quarterback isn't close to game-ready right now. But it is significant. That Rodgers is moving around like this so shortly after an Achilles tendon tear is basically unheard of, signaling that a return is legitimately possible. Outside of his health, it will depend on how the 4-7 Jets play over the next few weeks, too.

  • The next three games: Falcons, Texans and Dolphins. The most likely outcome is 0-3, but 1-2 feels plausible. That would make New York 4-10 or 5-9 when Rodgers might be able to return. Nowhere near the playoffs. Even a 3-0 record in that stretch leaves little chance for the postseason, according to The New York Times' playoff predictor.
Zack Rosenblatt wrote a thorough primer on this whole situation here, in much more detail than above. Applaud Rodgers for the comeback, but don't expect to see him on the field this year.

Bonus: Do you hear Joe Flacco's music?? The 38-year-old veteran is in line to start for the Browns against the Rams this weekend if Dorian Thompson-Robinson does not clear concussion protocol. Flacco could become the fourth quarterback to win a game for the 7-4 Browns this year. Unreal.

That sucks, but a current or former pro athlete's wife accused him of cheating? Knock me over with a feather.
I get it, sports personalities having affairs gets attention but think about it, how many of your everyday friends have affairs? Is it more or less than sports folks? Probably the same. We just see them leaving Dennys at 1 AM not Nobu in Malibu.

If I had to guess, I would say it is more common among current and former professional athletes. That isn't a judgement of their character as much as it is a recognition of circumstance. They have a lifetime of entitlement making them think they can get away with it. They are also likely to have more opportunities due to their fame, money, and time spent on the road.
