Oklahoma student newspaper does basic reporting, gets media session canceled

As a prep writer waiting for a practice of a school I didn't normally cover to end. I made sure to tell the coaches who I was when I arrived.

"You didn't have to do that."

"Well, I didn't want you to think your opponent was sending spies."

"Son, we run the Wing-T. We only got three forkin' plays."

This is hilarious and reminds me of my prep days and the big local rivalry. I was beat guy for Team A and my editor was beat guy for Team B. Team A's HC, who had me in on a regular basis to watch film and go over stuff off the record, was always icy and wary of my editor, who, believe you me, did not give two shirts one way or the other who won the annual season-ending game between the two schools. (Team B's HC ran a local ice cream parlor, where I'd known him since I was like 10 and eventually had the "holy shirt we're going out" conversation with my first serious girlfriend, and his wife worked with my Mom, so he liked me just fine)
