Please allow me to interject my feelings about Mother Nature

For the first time ever, the Mackinac Bridge will be closed from sunrise to sunset today, due to hunks of ice measuring up to 20-30 feet long and weighing a couple hundred pounds, falling off the suspension cables and plunging up to 300 feet to the roadway below.

Expected to open overnight as temperatures rise above freezing.

Considering the storms that roll through the Straits area, surprised it's the first time Mighty Mac has been closed that long.

High winds but no storms here today. My in-laws had a tree fall right next to their driveway that missed their camper trailer by just a few feet. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. My FIL wants to get it fixed up for one more big trip but it's going to cost several thousand dollars to get it ready. I'm sure he'd have been happy to have that tree smash through the center of it, collect the insurance check and have that thing taken off his hands.

Right now, the temps in Mac City are 33-35 with a freezing rain, so if anything the ice coating is probably getting thicker. The hourly forecast says temps should rise into the 40s after midnight, which probably should shake it clean.

As it gets warmer, the falling ice will probably get much worse before it clears. It might be 40ºF on the deck but 7-8º colder up in the cables. I'm guessing another day at least of closure.

Let the record reflect that I am officially over the "ice" portion of the year.

Just missed our first 90-degree day today, although it might have gotten there in some places. Topped out at 89, officially. Humid as heck, too.

We're in the early spring Cape Cod cycle. Low 40s today, low 50s over the weekend, low 40s Monday, and so on. Rain on every other day, windy every day. Spring here is about light, not warmth. Beats what you folks in the tornado section get.

Looks like stuff's getting real in northeastern Arkansas. Big funnel cloud near Jonesboro.
