RIP Apollo Creed

Looked and moved more like a heavyweight champion than any actor in history. Totally believable as Apollo Creed in and out of the ring.

I was think that Tommy Morrison actually was a heavyweight boxer, but you are still right.

I don't know how it happened that he was cast in Happy Gilmore, but whomever thought it up was genius.

Such an icon of my youth.

1, Rocky is one of the great love stories ever told.

2, Apollo Creed was a phenomenal cinematic character from Rocky 1 till Drago beat him to death.

3, Carl Weathers was born to play Apollo.

4, He's from my hometown and graduated Poly.

5, Scenes like this are what made Rocky Rocky:

Southpaw, nothing'. I'll drop him in three.

Stallone has said in numerous interviews that in retrospect killing off Apollo was a huge mistake.

But in a way it turned the character into a holy martyr -- and made the spinoff of the pretty impressive Creed franchise possible.

Action Jackson was woefully underrated with him, Craig T. Nelson, and Vanity.

Edit: Rewatching it now in his honor on Prime and crazy how many of the same character actors and goons are in this as Die Hard, including Argyle, which came out the year before in 1987. Maybe a Richard Donner movie too, not sure.

checked: it's not, different director.
