Running 2022-23 NHL thread

They've also been to 3 finals since then winning 2. Whatever they changed has worked.

Not questioning that they needed to toughen up after Columbus just embarrassed them in that series. But getting tougher doesn't necessarily mean acting like a_sholes when things don't go well. Tampa has crossed the line far too many times, especially when they're getting beat.

Surely you understand nuance, or are you going to play tough guy just to start something?

Corey Perry is one of the biggest shirts in the NHL. If a referee is turned in the other direction, he's doing something dirty or illegal or annoying, like grabbing a stick and trying to wrestle it out of an opponents hands and throw it off to the side. He's particularly like that with under 2 minutes left in a game that Tampa is going to lose. Go back and look at how many times the final horn is blowing, Tampa has just lost and someone on the other team is being restrained from pounding Perry into the ice.

Burke and Hextall out in Pittsburgh. Burke in particular was a weird hire, Anaheim was a long time ago.

Eakins out in Anaheim.

Is Mario hanging the same shingle in Pittsburgh: Do anything, do everything, sell the organization down the road for even longer than it is now, but get help now to get one more Cup while Sid and Geno are here?

I don't think Mario is that involved anymore. I heard Pierre McGuire on the radio a month ago, and he and some others were going to a Pens game with Mario. It was the first one he attended all year.

I think he retained some equity when he sold as a way for Fenway to foster some local goodwill.

I've been wrong before, but I don't think there is a quick fix available in Pittsburgh. Doesn't mean they won't try.

With the Penguins ending the season by losing to Chicago and Columbus, Anaheim has slid under both and now is in pole position for the Connor Bedard Derby, aka the draft lottery on May 8

I would laugh my ass off if the Penguins buck the odds and get him. The way they tanked for Lemieux is part of why there is a lottery now, but they still got insanely lucky to get Crosby.

I believe Tighthead is right. Lemieux isn't running the show anymore. I also think he is right that there is no quick fix. They are going to ride out the big three, but they really are going to have to tear it all down and go through a total rebuild. It's going to get ugly.

Dumping Burke and Hextall was a good start. Both were bad hires and they added to the mess. It is amazing how bad they are with three players the caliber of Crosby, Malkin, and Letang.

Joe Pavelski left San Jose and was playing for Dallas when they went to Cup final. Sharks fans were rooting hard for the Stars to see Pavs hoist the cup. I couldn't go there because of Corey forking Perry. I hated the Ducks because of that guy. And I'm agnostic toward Anaheim in general because I hate LA with everything in my being but that guy might as well have been playing for the Dodgers for as much as I loathe him. Just a real shirt.

Playing tough guy? Get over yourself.

They can't, only bottom 11 have a chance.

Gotcha. Some analyst from Pittsburgh got it wrong, then. They thought the Penguins got a shot just by missing the playoffs. The bottom 11 makes more sense.

@ChrisLong , let's get ahead of this. Who is the NHL rigging the lottery for this year?
