Running 2023 golf thread

Sports Biz Journal, I think. Wells Fargo didn't want to ante up for $25 million but offered something like $20 million and the Tour said no. One would think now wouldn't be the time for the Tour to play hardball like that, but I guess we'll find out.

Yes, it was SBJ. And it was about Quail Hollow being an "elevated event" with all the top players.

I hope they do get that. Based in Charlotte ... I mean, come on ...

Not sure the PGA Tour wants to be playing hardball given the fragile financial precipice on which they're trying to still stand. Agreed with upthread ... might not be FedEx-sized sponsor, but this isn't small potatoes, either. And they have sponsored the event in Quail Hollow - which the Tour has tried to promote as a bigger event for a long time.

Might want to make sure you have bigger and more lucrative sponsors ready to go before telling anyone no.

One of my nieces and her husband are members of Quail Hollow (he's a two-handicap and is the only person I've seen make an albatross with my own eyes. If he wasn't such a good guy, I'd hate him). Maybe I can get the inside skinny during holiday communications.

Does a guy like Rahm care about anything but the majors? He's in them for the next 5 years regardless and by then the situation will have sorted itself out.
And he damn well better contend in all of them or win another one. Because if he doesn't his world ranking will sink even faster.

A family member on a long par four hit his 200 yard approach to the green where it hit another player's ball and caromed in for an eagle.

Vegas needs to hang a number on that for next year. "Major wins by LIV Golfers o/u 1.5"

A multibillion-dollar deal between a group of well-known U.S. sports team owners and the PGA Tour is imminent, as the tour still hopes to reach a similar agreement with Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, sources told ESPN on Friday.

That's a big "still." I won't believe it 'til I see it, and surely most of the players feel the same way.
