Episode 2: Pretty Damn Strong!

Yes, but point, how's your brother Nate doing as Bush imitator Tom Jeter?

Miss Isringhausen ... rrrrrowwwrrr

Not bad, but she's no Alma Garret-Ellsworth!

Another strong episode, and Perry is doing a great job of getting away from Chandler.

I have to say, though, the musical number didn't work for me.

Really Jackie? I thought the music number was great....better than anything I've seen on SNL lately.

Will we ever see the "Crazy Christians" skit?

I know it's been said, but last night's ep was pretty damn good. Amanda P with the hair down looks a heck of a lot older than Amanda P with the hair up and perhaps more believable...
I thought she had a Maria Shriver look going.

I was girding up to hate the song... but I thought it was believable and legit.

Very talky, just like West Wing. Not saying that's a bad thing, but, damn, I feel like I've run a mile after watching.
I wasn't a big WW fan, and while I'm into this show so far I have to say it tests reality as much as show like 24, just in a different way. While it's entertaining to hear the nonstop one-liners and banter, no one talks like that.

Re: Studio 60 premiere (spoilers)

I know it's early ... but Perry could be working his way toward an Emmy this season.

Re: Studio 60 premiere (spoilers)

When in doubt, turn to HMS Pinafore for comedic genius.

I'd like to see them take the bald guy from Sex in the City and make him an even less likable writer, rather than send him off.

So is this DUI tease how they cover Peet's pregnancy? Would be weak to see her go so soon, like when Seagal left so soon in "Executive Decision." I make that horrible reference with the hopes that this isn't threadjacked by B.D. Wong fans.

After the episode ended, I turned to my wife and said "I wonder if NBC is worried that the show-within-a-show on this and Tina Fey's new show will be better than the actual SNL?"

Admittedly, we only saw the opening skit from S60 and SNL has an entire 90 minutes to fill. But that song was smart and funny, and that's a very rare combo on SNL lately.

What SNL rarely is is subtle, or with any underlying meaning behind the satire. There's only so much depth to Horatio Sanz in drag. Can't remember the last time I saw smart writing on SNL.

What? You don't see the biting subtext of social commentary in Sanz's "I'm Carol" bit? Shocking! [/sarcasm]

Besides Tina Fey's solo Updates, the last smart funny writing was anything with Phil Hartman.

Re: Studio 60 premiere (spoilers)

At first I didn't think the song at the end was that great, but I started thinking about it. If you were living in that world and watched the sketch show without knowing all the behind scenes stuff - all you knew was the old producer had a meltdown on air and the new producer admited to doing coke, so you tune in to see what the first episode is going to be like - that would have been pretty hilarious.

Lyrically, it came off to me as bulky, cumbersome.
'Twas a minor quibble, though.
