Ahem.
My wife's main observation about the show goes something like this: "For a show about people who get paid to be funny, it's awfully dark and serious."
And this may be one of those inside-baseball things that's lost on civilians, but most funny people are, actually, dark and serious when the lights aren't on.
I interviewed Steve Martin many, many years ago and was struck at how serious and professional he was off stage. It was just a job, one which required him to put an arrow through his head sometimes.
Ahem.
