Haven't finished reading it yet, but figured I'd post here. Always love this kind of stuff:

Was thinking of this story earlier in the week during one of the many telecasts devoting itself to the assassination. Thanks for the link, Evil.

SI gave Rozelle Sportsman of the Year three weeks after the decision to play the games that weekend.

My dad and uncle went to the Giants-Cardinals game that Sunday. He said it was the most eerie game he's ever been to, because there was no PA announcing and the crowd was pretty quiet for what looks, from the boxscore, to have been a very good game:

My dad also said that my grandfather was so upset they went, that he didn't speak to either of them for a couple of weeks afterward.

Not NFL, but our two local high schools (the new one was in just its fourth year of existence) played their crosstown game just hours after the news broke. At the time, that was the last game of the season (the HS season ends two weeks earlier nowadays because the playoffs have been expanded so much).

One of the coaches, now in his 80s, still lives here. He said it was one of the quietest crowds he ever saw.

The final was 21-20. The game was decided by a failed two-point conversion with less than two minutes remaining.

This one is my favorite of the stories of the recent JFK genre.
