SJ.COM All-purpose dating thread

I envy any woman who has every man who texts that to her mean something more.

If that were the case, I'd have like 5 guys in love with me. Sadly, no.

You must be friends or know some odd guys then. I have NEVER done that or even thought of doing that. Who knows, maybe I am wildly off base, but I don't know any guys who would do that (unless there was something more ... even if that something more was just sex).

Yeah, can't remember the last time I did something like that. In fact, can't remember the last time I went out of my way to do something for a lady. Well, actually I can, last summer. But it's winter and the only thing I care about is snowboarding and hanging with my friends when I get time. Girls, eh, whatever happens, happens.

Take this for example: A somewhat friend of mine, we've been casually hanging at one of the bars and messaging here and there. There's something there and I wouldn't mind doing the whole date thing with her, but I'm not really jumping through hoops or even second guessing not wanting to hang outside of what I'm doing on that respective night.

Does that make sense?

I'm not too worried. We're hanging out tomorrow, so we'll see. I think we all know me better than to believe I won't just come right out and say something.

It is possible for a guy to send a message or make a phone call, just to say hi, or I'm thinking about you, or I miss you, or I love you, and not have it mean anything more than what is being overtly communicated. I've done it, and I like to do it. Maybe I just want to hear your voice before I go to sleep. Things like that are reassuring.

Thank you.

I do it too. For that same reason.

Well, thanks so much to both of you for trying to bust my bubble of happiness.

P.S. It didn't work.

I know that some people, men and women, might call that being needy. Or they might feel like it's a chore. I'm not one of those people. If I'm in a relationship, I want her to know that I'm thinking about her and not just in THAT way, and I like to know she's thinking of me too.

It's just......nice. That really is the best way I can describe it.

An ex of mine (the most recent, in fact) was exactly like that. And this was months after we broke up.

I don't even consider her a friend anymore, and yet she would send me all kinds of messages saying 'I miss you' or 'I was thinking of you' or whatever else. I didn't want to get back together with her and I still don't. After sometime, though, those texts and voicemails were too much for me to handle so I blocked her number and finally got her to stop e-mailing me.
