The Royal Gazette Ltd is looking to fill the position of sports sub-editor.

The successful applicant will have a minimum of 10 years' experience as a journalist, with at least three of those years in a copy-editing role.

The position has been updated to include the prospect of working remotely.

As sports sub-editor you will support the sports editor to administer, plan and produce various publications, as well as supervise staff.

The successful person will possess the ability to:

• Shift gears seamlessly between breaking news and the news diary
• Create and co-ordinate content for all media channels, including but not limited to print, web and social media
• Edit copy and lay out pages
• Exercise good judgment over the use and relevance of overseas news
• Produce the Sport Scoreboard page in conjunction with and in the absence of the Sports Editor
• Work unsocial hours, including weekends and public holidays
• Show proficiency in an array of publishing tools, significantly InDesign

I was once sent to do some work in Bermuda. My meal and incidental expenses were based on the U.S. government per diem. At most sites, I could eat cheap and turn a profit on the per diem, which, depending on the location, was about $70 a day.

The per diem rate in Bermuda was $180. I spent every bit of it every day.

That said, it is a fascinating a beautiful place.
