The 2021 Running NASCAR/IMSA/other racing things thread

Had no idea the banquet was now in Nashville. In about 10 more years, they'll be holding it in the back room of Big Daddy's at Lake Norman, and still have empty tables.

At least it's cheaper than either the Waldorf-Astoria or the Wynn. But that's definitely proof positive that NASCAR's no longer what it once was, or even what it thought it was.

I get the feeling this is a bunch of nothing, but Lee Spencer has been around forever so …

That looks suspiciously like Phelps feeding Lee a cookie in hopes of floating a trial balloon. Dodge showed off a great-looking 2013 Charger at Las Vegas in the fall of 2012 before the manufacturer pulled the plug. What does FCA US gain from wasting development money on NASCAR almost a decade later? They've steadily lost market share over the past 15 years, but I'll bet the sales of minivans, Jeeps and Rams are way more profitable than what they make off Chargers and Challengers.

FCA US's future is making money off families who either want to tote kids to soccer practice or a weekend campout. I don't see 20- or 30-somethings really fascinated with retro styled cars from the 1960s.

If anything, I could see Ram coming back to the Truck Series.

Mazda wins Petit Le Mans by less than a second in its final DPi appearance. Porsche wins final the GTE/GTLM event ever as everyone switches over to GT3 next season.
That was a very fun watch during football commercial breaks all afternoon and evening.

Does NASCAR die when Tesla comes up with a car that can make it 500 plus miles on a single charge and top 200 mph?

Rather than "modernizing" and putting a Cup date there, I'd rather see it restored and host a Busch race or some kind of throwback series.

NASCAR will no longer allow a band to perform at its venues due to a strange incident that took place at Daytona International Speedway last week.
Daytona International Speedway is scheduled to host the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season-opening Daytona 500, the 64th annual running of the "Great American Race", in February.
But with the 2021 season having just ended, the massive venue in Daytona Beach, Florida is also hosting other events in the meantime.
One such event was last Thursday's Welcome to Rockville Festival.
During band Brass Against's set at the event, singer Sophia Urista singled out a male fan in the crowd who had a can of beer on his head. She told him she was going to "pee in his mouth" and then proceeded to call him up onto the stage, during which time the band was covering Rage Against the Machine's "Wake Up".
Urista then instructed the fan to lie down face-up on-stage, and she pulled down her pants and urinated on his face. The man, who appeared to thoroughly enjoy what had just happened, then stood up pumping his first before spitting the urine into the crowd.

heck, they'd have to shut down Talladega permanently if that was the case. I'm certain both sexes -- and perhaps other species -- have peed on passed-out people all over the infield, grandstands, parking lots and campgrounds there without a second thought.
