Jimmy Connors was another product of a stage/sports-fixated parent, and it took him years to recover.

And Johnny Mac's public persona remains nothing to be proud of, even today.

The flag fell. She smiled and laughed a bit and said it was "flying to come hug me because the flag was so happy." I thought that was indeed darling.

What was your suggested grown-up way of handling that?
